    A Relationship for Mutual Success

From our many years of experience in data-driven care process improvement, Health Catalyst understands that a successful deployment must be achieved in a prioritized and incremental fashion. To ensure success, we offer a relationship that progresses our clients through four Achievement Levels. When Achievement Level 1 is accomplished and has great visibility and proven success within your institution, we systematically expand our relationship to Achievement Levels 2, 3, and 4 to progressively and more effectively meet your analytical objectives. This logical progression represents over 20 years of real-world experience (and more importantly, success) in building EDW/analytical teams for multiple medical institutions. Each level is equally valuable and is strategically placed to effectively create an optimal care transformation environment (or care process environment) that ensures maximized return on investment for many years to come. This process naturally aligns financial responsibilities as your institution utilizes the strategic features, functionality, and components of our products and services.

Typically, our clients achieve success at Level 1 within 6 months of project kickoff, at Level 2 within 9–12 months, and at Levels 3 and 4 within 18–36 months. This rapid progression from Level 1 onward illustrates the substantial immediate return on investment that our clients receive as a result of their relationship with Health Catalyst. A general inventory of each level is below.

    Technology Road Map

The table below represents, at a high level, the technology we help to deploy through each Achievement Level. More about each component of the Health Catalyst technology offering can be found below, which describe each Achievement Level in greater detail.

    Achieving Success

    Achievement Level 1

In Achievement Level 1, Health Catalyst implements an infrastructure for analytics and unlocks your data through our platform and Foundational Applications. We also work with you to discover and prioritize your greatest opportunities to decrease variation and cost. Catalyst customers can complete Achievement Level 1 within 6 months of the project kickoff.

Achievement Level 1 includes the implementation of the following:

    Foundational Applications

    • Population Explorer provides an easy-to-use interface that allows users to explore a wide variety of metrics stratified across a growing list of clinically validated cohort definitions.
    • Patient Satisfaction Explorer allows users to drill into patient satisfaction scores as well as stratify scores by location to understand major drivers behind patient satisfaction trends.
    • Financial Health Explorer enables exploration of financial data, allowing users to view financial metrics stratified by specialties, clinical areas, and payer mix.
    • Readmission Explorer is a tool that displays system-wide readmission metrics that are easily stratified and searchable by clinical area.
    • The Executive Dashboard Integration Tool (EDIT) (In Development) delivers a customized executive dashboard displaying key operational, financial, quality, and patient satisfaction performance indicators.

    Discovery Applications

    • The Key Process Analysis (KPA) Tool (also known as the Pareto Tool) uses the “80/20 rule” to identify cost-driving clinical areas in your data and analyze variation in your clinical processes. That analysis allows you to identify the biggest opportunities for cost reduction. It combines clinical and financial data to highlight the best opportunities for improvement and guide the development of applications to support improvement initiatives.
    • The Late-Binding™ Data Warehouse enables time-to-value that is measure in days and weeks, not months and years.

    Late-Binding™ Components

    • The Late-Binding™ Data Warehouse enables time-to-value that is measure in days and weeks, not months and years.

    Data Acquisition and Storage

The Late-Binding™ Architecture of the Health Catalyst data warehouse streamlines and simplifies the process of bringing data into the warehouse. A Source Mart brings a new data source into the data warehousing platform and provides the necessary linkages with Atlas.

    • Achievement Level 1 includes the implementation of one EMR, one Patient Satisfaction, and one Costing Source Mart.
    • The Instant Data Entry Application (IDEA) is Catalyst’s tool for designing data collection forms that are accessible over the web.
    • Atlas is Catalyst’s web-based metadata management tool. Atlas stores and displays metadata, including data mart, table, and column descriptions.
    • The Health Catalyst Metadata-Driven Data Management Framework powers the generation and automated loading of Source Marts into the Health Catalyst Platform.
    • The Auditing Dashboard allows overall auditing of the EDW, including metrics such as total number of queries run over time, queries by user, and queries by data mart. It supports drill down, allowing data stewards to see individual queries executed against the EDW.
    • The Idera database monitoring application collects query data on every data warehouse query and makes the data available to the BI tools for analysis, reporting, and visualization.

    Metadata Engine Components

    • Atlas is Catalyst’s web-based metadata management tool. Atlas stores and displays metadata, including data mart, table, and column descriptions.
    • The Health Catalyst Metadata-Driven Data Management Framework powers the generation and automated loading of Source Marts into the Health Catalyst Platform.

    EDW Operations and Security

    • The Auditing Dashboard allows overall auditing of the EDW, including metrics such as total number of queries run over time, queries by user, and queries by data mart. It supports drill down, allowing data stewards to see individual queries executed against the EDW.
    • The Idera database monitoring application collects query data on every data warehouse query and makes the data available to the BI tools for analysis, reporting, and visualization.

    Achievement Level 2

In Achievement Level 2, additional Foundational Applications automate the broad distribution of information while powerful Discovery Applications help your teams further understand and prioritize opportunities for improvement. This phase of the Catalyst deployment also sees the implementation of your first Advanced Applications. These Applications enable you to begin making data-driven care transformation a reality. This level also begins to create self-sufficiency in your staff by providing Source Mart Designer (SMD), allowing your team to create and edit new Source Marts. Catalyst customers can complete Achievement Level 2 within 12 months of project kickoff.

Achievement Level 2 includes the implementation of the following:

    Foundational Applications

    • Revenue Cycle Explorer allows users to understand basic clinical and business drivers behind revenue cycle management from scheduling to collections.
    • Patient Flow Explorer provides several dashboard views that display volumes and trends of patient volumes in various physical locations in your facility.
    • Departmental Explorer provides a collection of basic dashboarding tools to help departments gain a baseline understanding of basic operational efficiency and volume metrics specific to their areas.
    • Nurse Management Explorer allows nurse managers to understand basic operational and staffing indicators as well as nursing sensitive indicators such as pressure ulcers.
    • Practice Management Explorer looks at basic operational metrics including RVUs, panel management, and follow-ups to help practice managers focus on achieving efficiency in key practice areas.

    Discovery Applications

    • Comorbidity Analyzer indexes all patients for a variety of comorbid conditions using configurable literature-based comorbidity models.
    • Cohort Finder/Builder allows non-technical users to input clinical and demographic criteria to identify specific populations of patients, share population definitions with other users, and download detailed information on these populations.
    • ACO Explorer provides a dashboard with drill-down capabilities for users to understand metrics specifically of value to ACOs and managing cost across the continuum of care.
    • Regulatory Explorer provides a framework for incorporating definitions of various regulatory metrics as well as a dashboard for viewing compliance with the metrics and exception reporting.
    • Attribution Modeler allows Health Catalyst to tailor the way key performance indicators are attributed to patients, providers, hospitals, etc.
    • Readmission Predictor is a dashboard that stratifies patients by risk of readmission and presents the readmission risk alongside current census data to allow proactive preventative measures by units.

    Advanced Applications

    • Health Catalyst’s Advanced Applications provide deep insight into evidence-based metrics that drive improvement in quality and cost reduction.
