Health Catalyst’s Head of APAC, Farhana Nakhooda, recently contributed to The Business Times’ weekly column, View from the Top, on the topic, “How might we rein in rising healthcare costs in Singapore?”

Nakhooda said, “Under the shadow of rising healthcare costs is a more extensive and under-tackled issue of quality-associated healthcare waste, which accounts for up to half of all healthcare expenditures. These range from preventable foul-ups in medical care, misdiagnosis of patients, provision of unnecessary treatments, to inconsistencies in clinical procedures, which drive up healthcare costs and insurance premiums.”

“The good news is, we can significantly reduce healthcare waste using data and analytics. Some hospitals in Singapore are already using data analytics to improve patient care; and many are keen to start doing so.
