To help hospitals survive and thrive in the new era of value-based payment, the American Hospital Association’s Hospitals and Care Systems of the Future report identified 10 must-do strategies, four of which are high priority: 1) Aligning hospitals, physicians, and other clinical providers across the continuum of care, 2) Utilizing evidence-based practices to improve quality and patient safety, 3) Improving efficiency through productivity and financial management, 4) Developing integrated information systems. The AHA has laid out some important guideposts for the journey, but where do you start? My advice is to begin with Strategy No. 4 – developing integrated information systems

Scott Holbrook joined Health Catalyst in February 2013 as a Strategic Advisor. He is a 40-year healthcare technology veteran in both vendor and healthcare provider organizations and most recently served as the Executive Vice President of Medicity. Scott is one of the founders and owners of KLAS, and has served in executive positions at Intermountain Healthcare, GTE, Sunquest Information Systems, Integrated Medical Networks, and is a founder of Park City Solutions. From 1977 to 1988, Scott served as a Vice President of IT Services for Intermountain Health Care and their 26 hospitals. Known as an industry innovator, client advocate, and champion, Scott is very active in the healthcare industry associations. He is a HIMSS Life-Fellow presently serving as the Vice Chair of HIMSS, Chair of the HIMSS Finance Committee, and Chair of the HIMSS Nominating Committee. He also serves on several healthcare IT company boards. Scott holds a Master of Science from Utah State University, a Bachelor of Science from Brigham Young University, and is a Six Sigma Black Belt.
