Master data management is key for healthcare organizations looks to integrate different systems. The two types of master data are identity data and reference data. Master data management is the process of linking identity data and reference data. MDM is important for mergers and acquisitions and health information exchanges. The three approaches for MDM are: IT system consolidation, Upstream MDM implementation, and Downstream master data reconciliation in an enterprise data warehouse.

Pete Hess joined Health Catalyst as Vice President of Research and Development in November of 2011. He started his career at Intermountain Healthcare in 2000, where he filled a number of roles in data warehousing and software engineering. While at Intermountain, he served as technical lead for the Clinical Intelligence team as part of Intermountain’s joint venture with GE Healthcare. Most recently, Pete was IT Director for the Utah Educational Savings Plan, where he led the software development and BI initiatives for one of the nation’s top-rated 529 college savings plans. Pete holds a Master of Science degree in business information systems from Utah State University and a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the University of Utah.
